International award-winning jazz pianist Nial Djuliarso was born in Jakarta, Indonesia on February 5th, 1981. He lived in America for 20 years.

He graduated from Berklee College of Music (BM, 2004), Juilliard School (AD, 2006), and New York University (MM, 2018).

He has played and studied with Hank Jones, Kenny Barron, Richie Vitale, Wynton Marsalis, Ernestine Anderson, Benny Golson, Rufus Reid, Billy Drummond, Alan Broadbent, Danilo Perez, Jimmy Cobb, Roy Hargrove, Barry Harris, among others.

He has performed all over the world, including at Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), Carnegie Hall (New York City), Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), North Sea Jazz Festival (Holland), Thailand International Jazz Conference, Singapore International Jazz Festival, Malaysia's Divercity Music festival and Indonesia's Java Jazz Festival.

He has received many awards, including 1st place at the International Generations Jazz Competition in San Francisco, U.S.A, in 2008, 1st place at the Horace Silver Jazz Piano Competition in Los Angeles, U.S.A, in 2003, 1st place at the Piano Jazz Improvisation Competition of Oberlin Conservatory, Ohio, U.S.A in 1999, 1st place at USA Songwriting Competition in 2005, 3rd place at the Moscow Jazz Piano Competition in 2005 and 3rd place at the Montreux Jazz Piano Competition in 2005.

He loves swinging jazz pianists such as Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, Kenny Barron, Gene Harris, and Sonny Clark.

With the recent resurgence of the swing dance community in Jakarta, where he is also a part of, he decided to form a swing band to play for the lindy hop community in Jakarta. He calls the band Nial Djuliarso Swing Machine.
